Laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) to remove ovarian cysts, endometriosis, check tubes
Laparoscopy is a surgery that uses a thin, lighted tube put through a cut (incision) in the belly to look at the abdominal organs or the female pelvic organs. Laparoscopy is used to find problems such as cysts, adhesions, fibroids, and infection. Tissue samples can be taken for biopsy through the tube (laparoscope).
Hysterectomy including laparoscopic and vaginal hysterectomies
Other surgical instruments are used to perform the surgery through separate small incisions. Your uterus can be removed in small pieces through the incisions, through a larger incision made in your abdomen, or through your vagina. This procedure is called a laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy.
Myomectomy
Myomectomy is the surgical removal of fibroids from the uterus. It allows the uterus to stay in place and, for some women, makes pregnancy more likely than before. Myomectomy is the preferred fibroid treatment for women who want to become pregnant.
Tubal Ligation
Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure for female sterilization which involves the fallopian tubes being cut, tied, or blocked to prevent pregnancy permanently. Tubal ligation is performed as a permanent method of contraception and should only be done if you are certain, you will not want to fall pregnant in the future. It is effective for women who cannot use other methods of contraception or for women who have health problems that make pregnancy unsafe. Your doctor should make you fully aware of the risks and benefits of tubal ligation as it is not for everyone.
